The Basics of Poker


A hand in poker consists of five cards that can be of any suit. The higher of two five-card sets wins. However, in some games, the ace is considered the lowest card. If more than one player has a hand that includes an ace, the higher card wins. This strategy is referred to as bluffing.

A standard game of poker involves between six and eight players. In addition to a dealer, poker is also played with jokers. Each player receives five cards in a shuffled deck.
