Typically, the game is played with a standard 52-card deck. However, in some variants, jokers and Wild Cards are added. The game can be played with as few as three or four players or with as many as eighteen. The game can be played socially or professionally. Regardless of the number of players, the rules of the game are the same.

The ante is usually a small bet. The highest-ranking poker hand wins the pot. However, there is a side pot that is created from additional money bet by the remaining players.

Ties are broken by a high card. If more than one player has a high card, the hand that wins the ties is the hand with the highest rank. If two players have a high card, the best possible hand is a flush.

The best possible straight is five cards in sequence. However, no suit is higher than another. In some variant games, a flush is achieved by hitting needed cards on the turn and river.

The best possible straight is an 8-9. The best possible three-card hand is a trip sevens. However, it is not the most useful card.

The best possible five-card hand is the full house, consisting of three aces, two 6s and a pair of 7s. The best possible straight is a flush, containing five cards of the same suit in sequence.
