Slot – Definition
A slot is an opening, usually a small, narrow, groove or aperture, formed in the wing of an airplane. It allows air to flow in and out of the wing, or the tail of a jet aircraft.

In hockey, the high slot is the area right in front of the goaltender between the face-off circles and the center of the ice. This is the perfect place for a defenseman to take a blistering slap shot onto the net and is one of the best shots in the game.
